KATHY VARELA

For more than 14 years, I've helped businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations build brands that feel intentional, recognizable, and true to who they are.

What continues to fascinate me isn't design itself.

It's the way people connect, communicate, and decide who they trust.

That curiosity has shaped everything from my work in advertising and editorial design to the studio I lead today.

As a Cabo Verdean immigrant, mother, and neurodivergent creative, I've learned that people experience the world differently. The strongest brands recognize that too.

WHAT I BELIEVE

Design is not a luxury. It's a tool for visibility, trust, and opportunity.

I founded this studio to address something I've experienced and witnessed directly: the absence of culturally informed, strategically grounded design that underrepresented founders, nonprofits, and community organizations could actually access and afford.

Culture informs everything. Growing up between cultures taught me that identity is layered.

The same is true for brands.

People don't connect with businesses because of a logo alone. They connect with stories, values, experiences, and the feeling that something understands them.

That perspective shapes how I approach every project.

BEHIND THE WORK

They're creating opportunity, supporting families, advocating for change, and helping people feel seen.

My role is to make sure their brand communicates that same level of care, intention, and credibility.

The organizations I enjoy working with most are often doing meaningful work in their communities.

Led by me.

Never handed off.

When a project calls for a specialist — a copywriter, developer, or photographer — I bring in collaborators I know and trust, working under my direction.

You get high-level work without it ever bottlenecking on one person, and I credit the people who contribute by name, because I believe creatives should own and be recognized for their work.

What it's like to work together

Curiosity before assumptions

I ask questions, listen carefully, and take time to understand what's beneath the surface before jumping into solutions.

Meaning before visuals

Every design decision should support how people understand, experience, and trust your brand.

Collaboration over ego

The best work happens when ideas are explored together.

Clarity at every step

You'll always know where we are, what's next, and why decisions are being made.
